Today’s news coming out of New Zealand makes me sad. Not angry. Merely sad.
Not just for the people’s lives who were cut short, their families and a whole community. But for the perpetrators themselves. Hurt people hurt people. And it was a further reminder that there is real work to be done.
Whenever things like this happen I do wonder what life must be like for the people holding the guns even though it’s controversial to say out loud. Truth is as human beings I believe we’re all capable of things like this given the right conditions. World history backs this up. As does studies in criminal psychology. It’s the rejection of our darkest sides that perpetuate the cycle.
For those of you who managed to miss it, here is a brief summary below:
‘Shootings at two mosques in Christchurch Friday have left at least 49 people dead in an attack New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern labeled an “extraordinary act of unprecedented violence.”
Around 1.45PM local time, point-of-view video footage of the terror attack was posted live to social media. A 28-year-old Australian male has been arrested and charged with the murder, while two others remain in police custody. Around 20 people are seriously injured.’

Anger, hate, judgement, righteousness…all just forms of fear. And people feed on it.
The world really does need a new paradigm. The old ways of operating no longer work. Retaliation and crack-downs will be the standard response no doubt. And so it goes.
So much darkness & confusion around right now. Brexit has dominated headlines this week. And I haven’t even watched the news!
